Sale of abandoned iron, Railway revenue 32 crore taka

A group was always active with the sale of abandoned iron (scrap) of the Railway.By breaking the syndicate and selling the waste iron Western Railway earned 32 crore taka. Head office of Rajsahi, Bangladesh Railway, congratulated in this huge achievement.

Railway sources said, the abandoned iron lying in various yards of Western Railway, including the largest Railway Workshop of the country, Saidpur Workshop, was sold in open tender in the financial year 2017-18. Chief Engineer of Western Railway (COS) Md. Belal Hossain called the tender.

According to a source, a group was already active in the sale of abandoned iron of the railway. They earned millions of money through the syndicate. At present, the railway administration broke the syndicate tradition. As a result, in the year 2016-2017, the scrap sold and earned 25 crore taka. In the fiscal year 2017-18, it stood at 32crore. That means every ton scrap has been sold at 38 thousand taka.

According to sources, the same scrap sold in eastern region or Chittagong region at 20,000 taka per ton. Following the Western Railway, the Eastern Railway has also initiated to increase the revenue from selling scrap. It has been directed to make the amount double in the coming fiscal year, from the sector.

General Manager of the Western Railway Shahidul Islam congratulated the COS Belal Hossain for increasing the income.

Belal Hossain said, “We are able to bring transparency so it has been possible to increase the income in the scrap sector. In future, more money can be earned from this sector, he said.
